Although the Forest Service has beefed up it patrol of the area, due to it's distance, it is a popular location to break car windows and rummage through the vehicles.

The trail to Bagby is 1.5 miles long one way, and the last 4th of it is uphill. There are outhouses at the Hot Springs and one in the parking lot. To the left of the parking lot seemed to be a nice dry-camping area, although I never did find out if it was day use only or if they charged a fee.

Re: Austin Hot Springs

If YOU were paying attention Planted38, you'd know that J. Frank Schmidt now owns the land. PGE had it in the 60's and 70's, where it once had a campground. But PGE closed the campground in the late 70's because Russian immigrants were living there full time and threatening others who attempted to camp there. PGE turned it into a day use only park for a few years. After a few lawsuits in the early 80's for people being scalded, PGE closed the park and tore out the footbridge. They then sold the property. Schmidt bought it hoping to develop it into another Brightbush Resort type location... but failed to gain the permits and codes to do such. After being sued twice, he took measures to make access to the area difficult. It has been up for sale for at least 3 years now, but he is wanting too much for it.

Re: Mickey Hot Springs

There used to be boiling mud pots here, not sure anymore. Has anyone been there lately to verify. Definitely way hot, stay out, would love to see it in Winter. SG PDX

Re: McCredie Hot Springs

is mc credie still day use only i rember when they wernt clear winter nights were awsome there patti

Re: Medical Springs

Medical Hot Springs is NOT the correct name , The correct name is
Medical Springs. The swimming pool is not open to the public.

It started getting busy as we were leaving.

Re: Lehman Hot Springs Cabins

Where did you get this info?
Recent snow at Toketee, OR, and more snow forecasted, prompted Forest Service employees to close a gate to the road leading to the Umpqua Hot Springs. If the snow eases up, you can call the Toketee Ranger Station at 541-498-2531 to find out if the gate has been re-opened.

Visitors planning to soak in the Umpqua Hot Springs on the Umpqua National Forest, near Toketee, should plan to hike, snow shoe, or ski the last 2.5 miles. A temporary gate just past the junction of Forest Roads 34 and 3401 is installed to prevent vehicles from getting stuck in the snow on the way to the hot springs. Visitors are cautioned that as snow melts near the gate, often icy roads and snowy conditions exist further up the road to the hot springs.

Closing the gate will address public safety by limiting vehicle access to a plowed parking area at the junction of the two roads. This action comes at the request of the Douglas County Sheriff's office and Toketee residents to gate the road during the winter months to reduce adverse impacts on the Sheriff’s office and search and rescue personnel. Douglas County responded to about 165 calls for service at the hot springs from 2003 to 2010, resulting in multiple search-and-rescue calls. “Last year was the first time we closed the gate during winter, and as a result, there were no search and rescue calls to the hot springs,” according to Aaron Grimes, Forest Recreation Staff.

Visitors are encouraged to be prepared for adverse weather and winter road conditions when heading out to enjoy the winter beauty of the hot springs. “There are no trash receptacles at the site, so, whatever you pack in please pack out, so that we can maintain the beauty of the site,” stated Grimes. Temperatures at Umpqua Hot Springs range from 92-102 degrees Fahrenheit.

Re: Kahneeta Hot Springs

Public and accessible, for young and old? Only one place comes to mind, Jackson Wellsprings in Ashland. http://www.jacksonwellsprings....
