Thinking about heading here sometime in the next week. What's the access like in the winter? Is there much snow? Will it be difficult to get to the camping area?

I also went when they were closed 2017 February or March. They were working on redoing the soaking tubs. I just wanted to take a few pictures and they were more then happy to let us. And even let us sit in one of the spring tubs. Most wonderful trip and very nice hard working old man.

How was it? Did you need special hiking equipment to get through snow?

How can there be so many private/pay hot springs in Southwest Oregon but no public/free ones? It doesn't make sense. It seems like if there's one hot spring in an area then surely there must be more? I realize that southern Oregon is full of hippies that must have at some point had this same idea and yet, there are still no free hot springs in Southwest Oregon? Do I just need to go hiking more often? Am I incorrect in my assumption that one spring could possibly mean other undiscovered springs out there? Thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks

Hi there! A lot of the posts I've read have mentioned going to the springs in during the summer or spring season, but few seem to talk about being there during the winter. My friends and I are planning a visit next week (12/26-12/28). We expect it to be cold, possibly snowy. Our biggest concern is having the appropriate gear for this type of hike. Since access roads are closed, how difficult is the hike in? We are moderate hikers and from Los Angeles so snow is not our friend lol

Further, how were the crowds during the winter season? Everyone seems to complain that it's overcrowded. Is this true during December?

Spring is looking pretty nice. Much of the pools have been rebuilt. The largest pool still needs lots of work, but we spent a few hours on it this week :) Please do not bring glass bottles and clean up any trash that any bros have left behind. My brother had a 2" shard of glass in his foot after stepping into the big pool. Also, someone pooped at the edge of the pool...don't hesitate to call OSP on gross litterbugs! OSP: (541) 889-6469

Lovely place on an old ancient lakebed. Nice adjustable temperature hot springs. Clean bathrooms and camping too

It is crazy that all these hot springs are all near or to the east of the Cascade mountain range. Although, it makes sense when you think about it. Volcanic activity is still present in the area. The presence of magma deep underground heats it up.

That was me below, and no.. I didn't go. Judging by recent descriptions, I don't plan on it.. God I wish there was some hot springs SOMEWHERE that wasn't packed full of ascension consciousness wannabes running around spewing their trash and narcissism everywhere.

Wow iam totally disgusted with Oregon. I was born and raised in Portland Oregon I'm 50 years old my parents took my family up to olallie Lake and the national forests around the area our intire childhood at least 10 times a year . Austin Hot Springs was most definitely included in our familly outtings . I have memories with Campground and a well maintained sanitary system . I haven't been up there for the last 7 years and after going up there this Labor Day weekend I do not know if I will return sad to say the entire Forest around the hot springs he's being used as a toilet nobody seems to teach the children or others how to dig a hole and bury your fecal matter. I mean I went on a trail that led to another deer trail and every 10ft there was toilet paper piles as far as you can see disgusting. this is what happens if it's not maintained by our Forest Service because clearly the general public can't maintain it either or won't. disgusting totally . Come on people teach your children how to clean up after yourselves be proud of you in Oregon and what happened to The Pride I am just makes it saddens me. I have lost for words to describe how I feel our forest or turned into a toilet and yet 150 years ago we live it off these forests go visit it tell me if you want to live off of it now help make Oregon cleaner place to live
